Season's
Greetings, Peace and Our Best Wishes
for a Happy New Year

The Fall show and coursing season
We mentioned in our previous update that some of the successes in this year
were generated by Richard and Roslyn who pulled off a Best Puppy in
Specialty at the Gazehound Ontario Specialty July 1st under judge Sandra
Anderson. Richard dislikes handling intensely, but I was out in British Columbia,
so he had to do the honours. However in the excitement he forgot to get a picture.
I would never have believed his handling prowess if it were not for the obscenely
huge ribbon Roslyn brought back and this photo by Susan Trow who captured them
stepping out together.

Our next fun event was the Uxbridge Highland Games. An all Scottish
Breeds Show is held in conjunction and 65 dogs were entered. We had Treppy and
some puppies there on Saturday to enjoy the mass pipe bands and Roslyn there Sunday.
Our Ch. Fernhill's Intrepid topped the entry to go BEST IN SHOW
July 28th and then our puppy Roslyn went 3rd Best in Show the next
day. This is not a CKC sanctioned show so there were no points awarded
but
even better, Big Trep won a huge cash prize and lots of dog food!

The Fall show and coursing season was busy and successful. Indy, now fully mature
at 5 ½ years finished his Canadian Championship quickly and in style, with
extra points by placing in the hound group several times. He was fourth best hound
at the Markham show August 25th , and the weekend after, a Group 2 at Cornwall
and a Group 1 also at Cornwall.

championship winning the Hound Group at Cornwall September 1,2001
That was a rather exciting day as not only did Indy win the hound group, but Roslyn
won Best Hound Puppy and then went on to a Best Puppy in Show. That
qualified her to compete in Puppy of the Year where she distinguished herself
in a crowd of 75 Best in Show winning puppies at a formal black tie event held
at the end of the year.

Then in October, Rebecca Stone Duff arrived with her father Clark
to pick up Rennie. It was love at first sight. Sad as we were to see him go, we
knew that he had a wonderful home waiting for him and he would enjoy life on 20
acres in New Jersey.

Rebecca and Rennie
We still had his two sisters Roslyn and Reiba as well as Holly
and Havoc. In November when Holly turned 9 months we decided to take her out to
a few shows so she could see the bright lights. Little did we realize that she
would be a star too! At Ottawa during the "Show of Show" weekend she
took Best Hound Puppy!

Puppy at the Ottawa Kennel Club Show November 16, 2001. It was quite exciting
to have the girls do so well in the ring.

However, Holly's brother Havoc was not impressed
he
has a more important agenda.
Don't think that Fernhill Deerhounds spend all their time on a couch. Tillicum,
Torquil and Tyee all went lure coursing this year, but the real honours go to
Elvira who finished her American Field Championship and (drum roll) became
only the second Deerhound in Canadian history to get her F,Ch. Excellent
(F.Ch.X
300 points). For the third consecutive year she was top lure coursing
Deerhound in Canada. Congratulations to her owner Nancy Gimblett! Hopefully this
spring she will slow down enough to have some puppies.

Fernhill's Elvira Am.F.Ch. Can.F.Ch.X. Can.Am.C.G.C. and
No.1 Deerhound Lure Courser in Canada in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Well done
Elvira and Nancy!

That is what a Fernhill Deerhound is all about

Five Generation Get-together!
It is wonderful to have doggy get-togethers with friends but not often that it
can be combined with a five generation photo session.

Here we have Ellen Pilling with her 12 year old Am.Can.Ch.
Lyonhil Elan O'Fernhill, then Deb McNaule with Allie's son 9 year old Fernhill's
Condor, then Barb has Condor's 7 year old son Ch.Fernhill's Intrepid and
Mark Fielding has Treppy's 51/2 year old son Ch. Fernhill's Turbulent Indigo
and next is Linda Fielding with Indy's 3 ½ year old son Fernhill's Quaich
all
owner handled except for the pro, Mark, who helped with our Indy. What a line
up
thanks Allie!
